July 26: The Very Big Carrot at Morven!

What would YOU do with a very big carrot? Join us for a reading of Satoe Tone’s luscious book The Very Big Carrot and meet six rabbits who have some very interesting ideas of things to do with a very big carrot. Following our reading, we will design our own very big carrot to take home! All craft materials supplied.

August 9: It’s time for the Teddy Bears to have their picnic!
Jimmy Kennedy (1902–84) was an Irish songwriter best known for putting words to existing music such as Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Let’s celebrate summer with a teddy bear picnic full of fun and surprises…and we’ll even play Jimmy Kennedy’s song, too. Bring your favorite teddy bear and we’ll provide the picnic snacks and take-home craft (weather permitting) in Morven’s gardens! Pre-registration required.

August 23: Author Storytime with Barbara DiLorenzo!
Morven is delighted to host talented author/illustrator/art instructor Barbara DiLorenzo with two of her new picture books Renato and the Lion and Quincy: The Chameleon Who Couldn’t Blend In. We will visit Morven’s lion statue in the garden and Barbara DiLorenzo will read from both books then lead a hands-on watercolor painting session including a Quincy drawing sheet. All children will have the chance to paint what they think Quincy might be thinking. All art materials included. Books available for purchase in Morven’s Museum Shop.

Summertime Storytimes are read by Morven’s Curator of Education and Public Programs Debra Lampert-Rudman and one of Morven’s docents. Storytime is followed by a visit to Morven’s gardens and special take-home crafts! Bring along a hat and your favorite blanket for Storytime!

September 13: The Museum will make you happy in your heart

Join us for a reading of Susan Verde’s The Museum, the story of a little girl’s adventure through the halls of a museum. Each piece she sees evokes something new inside of her: silliness, curiosity, joy, and ultimately inspiration. When confronted with an empty white canvas, she is energized to create and express herself―which is the greatest feeling of all. With exuberant illustrations by Peter H. Reynolds, join us and create something special after touring the newly reopened Morven Museum!

September 27: Perfect time for a Picnic with Monet!

Bring your budding Monet and join us for a reading of A Picnic with Monet! Authors Julie Merberg and Suzanne Bober introduce young readers to Claude Monet's light-filled paintings through an enchanted picnic in the countryside. We will have fun reading, then touring Morven together, followed by a watercolor painting session in Morven’s gardens. All supplies included.
