Event description

Description

In this fun and interactive session, early childhood and elementary educators will learn to use simple computer programming languages to enhance lessons across English language arts (ELA) and science, technology, engineering, arts, and technology (STEAM). Educators will be introduced to Scratch Jr., Scratch for coding and 3-D design, 3-D printing, and Augmented Reality with Morphi app. Educators will create and design characters and backgrounds in 2-D, 3-D, and code motion, with sound and other effects for their characters. Participants will learn how they can use these various technologies in their classrooms and libraries for a variety of purposes, including reinforcing knowledge in core subject areas, honing presentation and storytelling skills, and fostering creativity.

This session is open to educators of preschool through grade 6, and does not require any previous experience in computer programming.

The session will take place on Friday, May 25, 2018, 12-3 p.m. at OSSE, Eleanor Holmes Norton III. Space is limited to 35 participants per session.
