Award-winning storytellers tell true, personal stories on the theme: "Screwed." Open-mic stories after.

About this Event

Tickets are by donation. Pay what you can!

StorySlam Oakland is the longest-running true storytelling show in Oakland. We miss doing live shows in bars, but the quarantine won't stop us from telling true stories. Our show now takes place live, online, via Zoom.

Our theme this month is "Screwed."

Screwed means different things to different people:

Stories about sex, or - messing up, getting in trouble, failing, futility, injustice, fixation, hardware, and once again, sex.

Stories about the opposite of screwed — sticking it to the man. Getting one over on somebody. Shenanigans of all kinds.

Our talented lineup features Bay Area storytellers who have won first place at StorySlam Oakland shows, or who have won at other storytelling competitions.

Some stories may be funny. Others may be raw and vulnerable. All will be true, first-person accounts of real experiences from ordinary people.

(to be announced)

Want a chance to tell your own 5-minute story?

In the open-mic portion, we'll hear randomly-selected storytellers from the audience. Practice telling your story looking into your computer or smartphone camera, and you're good to go!

Make sure you install Zoom for free on your computer or smartphone.

How it works:

All ticket buyers will get a special invite to the Zoom meeting, sent out the day of the show. Do not share your secret Zoom link with anyone else.

If you do not receive the link, check your junk email or spam folder in case it got lost in there. It will also be posted on the Online Event Page here on Eventbrite, but only right before showtime.

Once inside our virtual venue, you may leave your Zoom video on, so that the storytellers can see your reactions. You can even give them appreciation via the Zoom chat.

Rules: Open-mic stories must be true, about you, and 5-minutes or less. No reading allowed. No rants, essays or comedy sets. (If you go beyond 6 minutes, you might get muted!)

All storytellers must be fully clothed. Yes, we really need to say this. No shirt, no pants, no story.

We'll recreate the camaraderie and community of a live show. It will be live only within the Zoom meeting. It won't be streamed or broadcast anywhere else, just like a live show.
