Event description

Description

Join a crowd of artists, entrepreneurs, and makers - and a stellar panel of experts - at TheShop for our monthly night of networking and big ideas (and tasty wine and beer). Following up on the "Future of Humanity" event in May, we will be talking about the Future of Story - how stories make us who we are, and how technology is remaking the craft of storytelling. Every time we've invented a new medium, the stories we tell has changed - from language to music, to writing, printing presses, comic books, radio plays, television series, films and computer graphics, and now artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Find out what it all means, learn to do it yourself, and meet an incredibly creative and curious community of thinkers and doers!

Panelists include:

  • Dhaya Lakshminarayanan Dhaya is an acclaimed comedienne (named one of “The Bay Area’s 11 Best Standup Comedians” by SFist), host of the Emmy award-winning series High School Quiz Show on PBS’s WGBH and contributor to NPR’s Snap Judgment, a two-time MIT grad, and an impact investor. And that's just for starters!
  • Bastiaan Koch A gifted graphical storyteller formerly at Lucasfilm, Bastiaan created key characters for Transformers and Ready Player One. Bastiaan is advancing the medium with his own company Marauder Film. He will talk about his Directorial role on Is This Heaven and Infinite Loop - check it out here.
  • Melissa Lafsky. Melissa's writing and editing career spans The New York Times, Newsweek, the New York Post, Wired, the New York Observer, The Christian Science Monitor, The Huffington Post, Discover, and the Freakonomics blog. She uses the power of storytelling to help personal healing, companies like Facebook, and to explore new fields like cryptocurrency.
  • Mark Bünger, InnovationLab (moderator)

TheShop will raffle off a CNC mat cutter class and laser class for registered attendees. Hope to see you there!
