Event description

Description

From a diversity of life paths, people come to STORY CHORD ready to voice their passion and fine-tune their message.

They're singers, actors, poets, speakers, writers, activists, memoirists, filmmakers, designers, and entrepreneurs. They're you and me.

Whether you're an emerging artist or already established, between creative paths or returning after a break, you're teething on your newest self-expression, eager to connect the dots of your epic tale and share your truth.
Bring a song, a script, a pitch, a film idea, a bit of spoken word, a few pages of your journal, an instrument and your imagination to the workshop.
As master singer and storyteller, I'll guide you in shaping your message through techniques of visualization, movement and gesture, mirroring, writing, role play and improv. Together, we'll plumb our life stories for clues on how to most effectively connect our voices with current thoughts and feelings.
This 4-hour class includes group, partner, and one-on-one coaching in a supportive setting. I'll share my practices, tools and tips to help you:

*Become attuned and aware as you follow your own unique voice and instincts
*Learn to look to your lived experience for the answers you seek
*Understand your storytelling strengths and expand them; embrace the shortcomings and enlist them
*Practice sharing your voice in its fullest emotional arc and vibrancy
*Experience improvising with a guest musician
*Receive immediate feedback from a supportive audience
*Identify the next concrete steps in bringing forth your project and message
...and much more...

I love this work. I hope you'll join us.

Testimonials

"
Karen is really taking the time and giving her energy, opening up to every single student. She is able to sense what every single student needs to work on. Her braveness motivates and inspires. I had the feeling I am not alone, she wants me to grow, she wants me to succeed on stage and to be a conscious part of my journey and I am very thankful for that. - Anna S., cabaret artist

"For those of us who speak for a living, our voice is precious and, yet, often misunderstood and undervalued. Karen Kohler has the gift of revealing and nurturing the magnificent value of every individual voice – its shades and colors, its reach and hesitation, even its heartbreaks. Karen helped me to wholeheartedly embrace my voice and explore it in more depth than I ever had before. As a result, my speaking has become more powerful, nuanced and enduring." - Renate R., speaker/author

"The best part of working with Karen is her trust and faith in her performers which allowed us to blossom. I would recommend her wholeheartedly and without reservation - not just in the field of cabaret, but for any actor/singer who is trying to tell a story and wants to communicate to their utmost abilities. So all I can say is - go for it, there is so much to learn!" - William L., actor

"I learned how to make a song my own." - Sibyl O., singer

FAQs

Will you be doing any one-on-one coaching within the group context?
My workshops are very organic. Each one is as unique as the participants in it. I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone, take a risk and try something new. And we'll be doing this together. We learn as much from watching others take themselves on as we do when we take ourselves on. That's what makes these workshops so rewarding, and a great complement to my private coaching services.

What to wear, what to bring?
Dress in comfortable clothing. Bring a workbook or journal. Feel free to bring a small prop too.

How can I contact the organizer with other questions?
Contact me at info@karenkohler.com for more information.
