Description

Little Fictions presents performed fiction about the elusive, seductive and life-changing power of the written word. 'STORIFICATION - stories + sound' includes microfiction and short stories on the theme of writing set to original music. Author Jen Craig explores the writer’s invisible labour, Patrick Lenton's narrator stalks their favourite author, Cassandra Atherton takes to her lover’s body with a biro and in Ryan O’Neill’s ‘My English Homework’ an African refugee uses ESL exercises to escape an abusive relationship.

Join our MC, ABC TV's Monique Schafter and actors Eleni Schumacher, Felix Johnson and Ella Watson-Russell on stage at one of Chippendale’s grooviest small bars. Music and soundscapes by Tom Hogan.

Includes short fiction by Melbourne authors, Richard Holt and Cassandra Atherton; by Sydney authors, Jen Craig, Jon Steiner, Julie Chevalier, Patrick Lenton, Joshua Maule and Sue Goodall; Wollongong author Susan McCreery and Newcastle author, Ryan O’Neill.

About our MC

MONIQUE SCHAFTER is a Walkley Award winning journalist and documentary filmmaker who reports for the ABC’s flagship current affairs program, 7.30. She has interviewed icons such as Academy Award winner Jodie Foster, Russian feminist punk collective Pussy Riot and rock legend Iggy Pop, and has sought out the voices of young asylum seekers, LGBTQI warriors, domestic violence survivors and indigenous trailblazers. Previously, Monique co-hosted the ABC’s ground-breaking current affairs / comedy program Hungry Beast, produced by Andrew Denton.

About our feature sound artist Tom Hogan

TOM HOGAN is a multidisciplinary artist working in music composition and radio art, as well as written and performance work. He has designed over 100 plays, performances, and dance works, presented all over Australia. He produced the musical projects and podcasts Missing Richard Mercer, as well as the Obscure Music History - which was nominated for Best Comedy in the 2018 Podcast Awards. Most recently he worked with Pilar Mata Dupont on the film installations The Ague (TENT, Rotterdam, 2018) and Undesirable Bodies (Perth Festival 2018), both presented nationally and internationally.

About Little Fictions

Little Fictions is a unique literary performance in which stories published by Spineless Wonders are given new life off-the-page by talented actors. A regular feature of the Sydney Writers Festival for that past four years, Little Fictions offers festival-goers as well as lovers of literature from the general public the experience being read to while enjoying a drink and a meal at one of Sydney's best boutique bars.
