About this event
Come with open hearts and minds and be transported through poetry and music into each artist's world; begin to see the world differently; potentially find yourself in the stories heard; and, ultimately feel empowered to claim your own story!
Unity Spiritual Center Denver and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Council are committed to building a world that honors the great diversity of the human experience and supports that diversity to flourish in safe spaces. This spoken word event, featuring music and the spoken word, is centered on the experience of identity. Our goal is to offer a space where we can all learn from our place of perceived differences and deepen our awareness of how we are all also connected in the human experience.
Our special guest spoken word artists will share about identity through:
- Poems for my White Friends;
- A mother who is blind;
- The intersectionality of gender & being on the spectrum;
- Being Chicana & Native American in America;
- Insights into the Struggle of coming out as gay;
- … and more!
The spoken word performers will be complimented by music featuring a special performance by the SOAR! Youth & Adult Choir serving diverse youth, including those in adoptive families, foster homes, in kinship placement, and youth from single parent families.
Tickets are required for the performance. Please contact us for scholarships. A portion of the proceeds will be applied to honoring our performers as well as to help fund our work in the Denver Westwood community to build an English as a Second Language program for adults. The program provides English learning as well as workplace readiness skills.
