Stories from "The Great Wall of Los Angeles": Judy Baca in Conversation
Event Information
About this event
Judy Baca discusses her art practice and her plans to extend her monumental mural, The Great Wall of Los Angeles, with Sandra Jackson-Dumont, director and CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and Pilar Tompkins Rivas, the museum’s chief curator and deputy director of curatorial and collections.
The History of California (1976–84), popularly known as The Great Wall of Los Angeles, was created in the Tujunga Wash, a flood control channel northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The half-mile-long artwork traces a history of California, from prehistory through the mid-20th century. The Lucas Museum houses The History of California Archive, which includes more than 350 objects related to the mural’s development and execution, including blueprints, concept drawings, mural studies, site plans, sketches, and notes and correspondence.
Watch live on April 14, 5:00 pm PT, on the Lucas Museum’s YouTube channel.
ASL interpretation will be provided during the event. Viewers who wish to access live closed captioning in English or Spanish can do so by clicking this link while watching the program.
