Course Description:

This course will focus on understanding how inter-generational trauma can be linked to mal-adaptive coping mechanisms and/or “personality disordered” traits/characteristics. Course content will include the presentation of information to support defining key terms above (i.e. inter-generational trauma, personality disordered, Mal-adaptive coping mechanisms, etc.). Further information will be provided on the history of the topic(s) and recent advances in evidenced based practice. An interactive discussion will support further processing of how to understand, assess, and draw on the above to support the therapeutic process and inform interventions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Define key terms, including, inter-generational trauma, mal-adaptive, “personality disordered”.

2. Understand how identifying personality traits/characteristics can support treatment planning and interventions.

3. Identify the distinction(s) between a systems perspective and individual agency in relation to the process of change.
