Stop the Snoopers Charter Sheffield - with the Open Rights Group
Event Information
Description
Help fight back against the Snooper's Charter!
ORG wants you to help tell people in Sheffield about the dangers of mass government surveillance, profiling and data mining for supposed criminal suspects. Everyone - whether suspects or everyday citizen - will have their data stored.
ORG and ORG's local supporters will be briefed about the current state of the draft Bill, how we can kill it, and what we can do in Sheffield.
We'll be open to your ideas, so come along and help us build the campaign across the country.
Now is a critical moment, as Parliament reports and the Government will soon decide whether to go ahead with the draft.
What we will do
- Brief you on the draft Bill
- Provide you with draft campaign materials, free leaflets and campaign tools
- Network you with people in Sheffield who will help us all to defeat the Bill
- Ask you for your ideas
Open Rights Group Sheffield host monthly meet-ups for anyone interested in digital rights. Topics include copyright, privacy, freedom of expression, open data, censorship, digital inclusion, electronic democracy and internet law. The format is a short presentation to introduce a particular issue followed by group discussion.
Training provided by the Open Rights Group. Founded in 2005 by 1,000 digital activists, ORG has become the UK’s leading voice defending freedom of expression, privacy, innovation, consumer rights and creativity on the net. Getting into the political trenches in the UK and EU, we mobilise our supporters to stop bad laws. Working closely with other campaign groups, we lobby government and talk to the media whenever our rights are threatened. ORG is a non-profit company funded by donors, mostly by people like you. We depend on regular contributions to run and win our campaigns.
