Stop Freaking Out!: Roll With the Punches and Bounce Back From Adversity

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Oliver Goldsmith.

We live in a high-pressure, fast-paced, and continuously changing world, in which life often seems to consist of one crisis after another. In order to thrive, we need to equip ourselves to face — and bounce back from — these challenges.

This quality of being able to roll with the punches is called "emotional resilience." It is the ability to adapt to stressful circumstances and crises. Fortunately, emotional resilience is a skill — or set of skills — that can be learned. On this 28-day meditation event we'll explore the skills that allow us to bounce back from adversity, and will learn how meditation can aid us in becoming more resilient and effective individuals.

Whether we are able to roll with the punches or whether challenges leave us demoralized and helpless is not merely a matter of inborn temperament, but of learned skills. Emotional resilience makes the difference between, on the one hand, reacting by being continually angry or throwing in the towel and, on the other, flourishing and adapting, coming out of challenges stronger than when we went in.

Course Benefits

On this event we'll learn how to:

  • Practice self-awareness, identifying what we're feeling.
  • Handle difficult feelings self-compassionately, without freaking out or running away in response to them.
  • Learn to keep problems in perspective.
  • Regard crises as challenges and opportunities, rather than insurmountable obstacles.
  • Accept change as a part of life, and not as an anomaly.
  • Focus on our strengths rather than our weaknesses, so that we nurture self-confidence.
  • Learn to look on past challenges in a more positive way — seeing how they helped us to grow.
  • Take care of ourselves physically, through healthy eating, resting, sleeping and exercising.

As a result you'll learn to feel more in control of your life, become decisive in difficult situations, and will not only be less afraid of challenges but will welcome them as an opportunity to grow.

This event is suitable for people of all levels of experience, including complete beginners — anyone in fact who wants to learn how to stop freaking out.
