Description

The *panel "Stonewall With Double "L": Legacy and Future of LGBTQ Latinx in the Queer Movement" will remember, revisit and reflect on the historic contributions of Latinx activist and leaders in the LGBTQ movement since the Stonewall Riots- from the pioneer Sylvia Rivera to the age of HIV/AIDS to the present queer and immigration justice movement.

This panel will include the premiere screening of a scene of "Stonewall With a T" documentary, produced by Samy Nemir Olivares, focusing on the pioneering legacy of Sylvia Rivera and the modern transgender activism movement.

The screening will be followed by a plenary discussion with Latinx LGBTQ leaders:

- Bianey Garcia, Transgender Community Organizer, Make The Road NY

- Fernando Mariscal, Co-founder of Latino Caucus ACT UP

- Lorena Borjas, founder of Lorena Borjas Foundation that helps Trans Latinx immigrants

- Jossie Valentin, Lesbian Activist, Holyoke City Councilor and MA State director for Warren)

- Charles Rice-Gonzalez, Executive Director, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance

- Daisy de Jesus, Veteran gay/lesbian Activist, Co-Founder of Salsa Soul Sisters)

- Arnaldo Cruz Malavé, professor of Latin American and Latinx Studies at Fordham University

- Alyza Enriquez, Social Producer at VICELAND, is a non-binary, Latinx photographer, filmmaker, and digital storyteller (they / them)

7:30 - 9:30 - Film scene screening of "Stonewall With a T" and panel discussion titled "Stonewall With Double "L": The Legacy and Future of LGBTQ Latinx in the Queer Movement."

The panel will open the fourth installment of FUERZAfest New York –the only and first Latinx LGBTQ Art Festival in the North East, presented by Hispanic Federation.

FUERZAfest will run from May 8th through May 19th and includes: one-act theater play competition, performances, educational forums, art exhibit and more. This year, the festival is highlighting the theme “HONOR the Past, DEFEND the Future,” and will recognize Latinx heroes that were at the forefront of the LGBTQ movement fighting for change, inclusion and acceptance.

This year’s FUERZAfest “HONOR the Past, DEFEND the Future” film screenings are sponsored by AARP. .
