Description

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots w/ special Guest Anne Walker

50 years ago, in the early hours of June 28, 1969, during a then “usual” police harassment incident at the Stonewall bar in NYC, a spark exploded that ignited the modern gay rights movement. Rather than acquiesce, those in the bar pushed back. Marsha P. Johnson, a black transwoman, threw a shot glass and then others threw bricks refusing arrest. They set the bar afire, and for days demonstrations and riots erupted in the streets of Greenwich Village. The world came to see that our LGBTQ+ community would be silent no more.

We invite you to celebrate the historic anniversary at our uplifting and exciting Stonewall Humanitarian Awards event. It began with a transgender women of color, and endures today as we continue to demand our place as equals in our nation. We will honor those who work endlessly to improve the quality of life for all LGBTQ+ people. This year, we award the L- Fund with the inaugural Marsha P. Johnson Ally Award for their efforts in providing financial resources to transgender women in crises. We also honor Anthony Velasco, Nurse Practitioner from Desert AIDS Project with the Stonewall Humanitarian Award for his life-changing programs for the LGBTQ+ community, those living with HIV and the effort to reach the 90-90-90 challenge.

Funds go directly to the first and unprecedented Transgender Health and Wellness Center and the Transgender Community Coalition (TCC), located in Cathedral City, California. We provide needed services to local transgender, intersex and gender diverse community. This year’s goal is to raise $50,000 to continue and expand these vital services.
