Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered what it would’ve been like…

… to receive medical care during the Civil War?

…to be operated on before the germ theory was discovered?

…to know the nearest doctor was four hours away by horse and buggy?

Such was life in Montgomery County 150 years ago. Join Dr. Stonestreet, Rockville’s 19th century country doctor, as he share these tales and much more.

SPOILER ALERT: Much of what you think you know about how medicine was practiced back in the day is flat-out wrong! You may find that, in many ways, medicine hasn’t changed as much as you think!

Admission $5 in advance. Ribbon cutting at 12:30 p.m. followed by guided tours with Dr. Stonestreet at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Copies of "Send for the Doctor: The Life and Times of Dr. Edward E. Stonestreet," will also be availabe for all attendees at 50% off!

Named after its original owner, Dr. Edward Elisha Stonestreet, this one-room Gothic Revival Building was Dr. Stonestreet’s community medical clinic for 51 years (1852-1903). At its current home on the Beall-Dawson campus, the museum serves as a memorial to the life and service of Dr. Stonestreet, and as a bridge to understanding a piece of our local heritage.
