Stones & Solstice: an evening with Stone Lands' Fiona Robertson
Overview
Stones & Solstice: an evening with Stone Lands author, Fiona Robertson.
Step through the doors of Newcastle's historical Lit & Phil, settle down with a warm drink inside our indoor stone circle, and enjoy an evening of ancient stones and storytelling to celebrate the winter solstice.
Join Fiona Robertson, author of Stone Lands, for a captivating talk on the preoccupation that so many of Britain's prehistoric sites have with the winter solstice, that time of greatest darkness when the sun enters the ancient circles and burial chambers to herald the return of the light. Discover the folklore, stories and archaeology of the midwinter stones, and how you can experience these places for yourself.
Guests will also receive a handout on Northumberland's Duddo stones, which may incorporate a midwinter alignment – and 4,000 years after they were built, continue to draw people to celebrate solstice there.
Tickets purchased with a book can pick it up at the event.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to Northumberland Wildlife Trust's 'Save Rothbury' appeal.
Lying in the heart of Northumberland, the Rothbury Estate is a breathtaking mix of moorland, woodland, rivers and farmland. It's home to endangered wildlife, rich heritage, thriving rural communities – and ancient sites.
Right now, it’s at risk of being sold off, divided and lost for nature.
