The Stolen Series

Stolen, a 40-part series, consists of portraits of black people that were robbed of their lives at the hands of police brutality. This topic has been at the forefront of my mind for years, and finding a medium to raise awareness while also creating a way for us to collectively feel heard and heal, was a daily pursuit of mine in sharing this project

Time was used for measuring how long I spent coloring in each piece. One year of life represents one minute of color. Tamir Rice was 12 when he was murdered, so I colored his portrait for 12 minutes. For black people, our lives and time on this earth are not valued with the same significance as our white counterparts. Thus each of these portraits are meant to show the harsh relationship between time and death. This series captures stories that will never be told and families and communities left to put together the pieces.

From the love these pieces received online, it is a dream of mine to have as many people as possible see them in person. Stolen, will feature the Stolen Series in addition to several other original pieces that I am eager to share with you all.
