Event description

Description

New Acropolis Chicago will commemorate the International Stoic Week with three workshops, demonstrating the relevance of Stoic philosophy to modern life.

Mr. Gil Sommer, Director of the Chicago branch of New Acropolis, will give the workshop - “Can you trust your feelings? Stoic insights to the emotional world”.

The Stoics systematically analyzed the emotional world and spoke about 4 types of ilussionary emotions: craving, fear, pleasure and sorrow, discerning between feelings that result from appearances, and healthy emotions that characterize the sage: joy, caution and aspiration.

In this workshop we will take steps to see our emotional world as it is and to nurture the positive emotions of the sage.

A simple exhibition will also be presented on the history and practical wisdom of the Stoics, prepared by the students of the Chicago New Acropolis school.
