Event description
Still Kickin - IRL - A weekend Workshop for Men - Our first-ever weekend workshop specifically made for men.*

About this Event

This two-day event will identify the damaging expectations of men that have been present in our lives and across society since… forever? Because once we identify those expectations, we can break them down, dispel the damaging beliefs surrounding them, and help men take steps toward becoming the best versions of themselves.

We’ll look at how vulnerability leads to strength, how awareness leads to personal growth, and how communication and introspection help us handle our critics, even when our own worst critics are ourselves.

Once we identify the expectations we face, and the barriers to meeting them, we can set ourselves up for success to be better partners, fathers, sons, bosses, or employees.

Let’s learn to be more supportive of ourselves and others and redefine what it means to “be a man.”

*We use an inclusive definition of “man” and “male,” and we welcome trans men, genderqueer, and non-binary people.

Speakers and Sessions to include:

Nick Kesler, “(Not So) Great Expectations”

It’s tough being a man out there. We all carry the burden of expectations that have been placed on us since birth. Society, spouses, employers, kids, parents -- they all look to us to fill roles in their lives. But what are those roles? Do they tell us what they need from us, or are we just supposed to know? How do we acknowledge, ignore, or change these expectations to find balance in our lives?

Mark Meier, “Shame On You... Uncovering the lies of shame to discover your true self”

Rooted in many different places from throughout our life, shame is a prevalent and common emotion experienced by all people. For men, shame is often associated with money, career, parenting, partnering, and “fitting in” themes. When shame becomes toxic, it can destroy our sense of self, erode our ability to feel joy, and in the process make forming meaningful relationships nearly impossible. In this interactive session we will talk about where shame comes from, how it takes root, and just what to do about its noxious presence in our lives.

Art Lundgren, “Get a Grip… On your finances”

How do you determine your financial well-being? There are plenty of apps, advisors and media pundits willing to weigh in. There can be value in cutting through all this noise and assessing the situation for yourself.

This session will offer a few simple steps to gauge your financial situation. Once you know where you stand, you will be better able to think and talk about your position. This can offer powerful knowledge in making decisions and moving forward to a place of financial wellness.

JC Lippold, “Authentic Vulnerability”

Paul Simon said it best: I am a rock. I am an island. And yet … what happens when we let down our guard and allow others to see inside us? It’s easier than it may seem. Find out how being authentically vulnerable can help you get to know your strengths better and open yourself to a world of new possibilities. We’ll learn some simple tools that you can keep in your backpocket so whenever you need to feel #allthethings and share that with others.

Activities to Include:

Mark Schneider, Physical Movement Activity - "Leverage tension into strength"

Knowing how to build and use tension is key in building strength. This session will be physical as we learn and practice how to leverage the tensions we feel with anxiety, frustration, anger, and other mental states into a tool to become stronger and more resilient.

Topics we will cover will include tension, strength, embodiment, power, eccentric loading, explosiveness and other ideas.
