Stick / Arc welding is the classic form that pre-dates MIG and TIG welding. It has the lowest barrier to entry when welding simular materials (steel) togother. Stick welding (Sheilded Metal Arch Welding) is usually used for structal purposes, however it can be used to weld material as thin as sheetmetal to as thick as structial I-beams.
This class will introduce some of the basic skills of Stick (SMAW) to a complete beginner. We will talk about technique, prepping for welding, and most importantly safety. This will be a 2 session class lasting ~4 hours for each class.
Class Dates: Saturday and Sunday January 5th and 6th from 10am to 2:30pm.
This class will cover the following topcis:
- Welding safety
- Appropriate arc distance
- Travel speed
- Amperage / Heat / Penetration
- What is needed for welding and preping materials
- Vertical / Horizontal / Flat welding joint techniques
- Proper joint design / appearance
- Good welding techniques
Day 1: Intro, cover basic technique, review safety (PPE), lay a bead of weld down. Review welding methods including: Distance, Angle, Speed, Heat (DASH). We will review weld penetrations, technique, etc.
Day 2: Review joint types and joint designs, electrode types, and positions for welding.
Important safety info:
Wear comfortable clothing that is ideally cotton/cotton blend and flame resistant. There is a potential for your clothing to get damaged. We will provide protective eyewear/welding mask, and welding gloves. If needed, a welding jacket may be available.
