Event description

Description

The Stewart Custer Lecture Series is designed to honor one of our most celebrated scholars, the late Dr. Stewart Custer, and to demonstrate and advance the seminary’s commitment to cultivating scholarship in service for the church, the BJU Seminary sponsors the Stewart Custer Lecture Series each fall by inviting to campus a published author whose scholarly work addresses contemporary challenges of the church. Our theme this year is “Politics and the Christian Conscience.” In the United States, political drama is being played out in the media every day: Republican versus Democrat, conservative ideas versus liberal ideas, capitalism versus socialism, the Trump administration versus Congress and the “Never-Trumpers,” and so forth. How do we respond to this political theater as believers in Christ?

About our Speaker

For this year’s lectures, we are delighted to welcome Andy Naselli. He is an associate professor of systematic theology and New Testament for Bethlehem College & Seminary in Minneapolis and one of the pastors of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He serves God in a school and church that exist to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ. His role in that mission is to research, write, teach, and shepherd.

He earned two PhDs: one in theology from Bob Jones University (2006) and another in New Testament exegesis and theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2010). He was able to serve as the research manager for New Testament scholar D. A. Carson for about nine years (2006–2014), which was like a young lawyer’s getting to clerk for a Supreme Court Justice. He continues to work with Carson to publish the theological journal Themelios.
