"Steve's Show" Watch Party
"The Steve's Show," a documentary written, directed and produced by "Steverino" Sandra Hubbard about Little Rock, Arkansas's own live dance party hosted by Steve Stephens from 1957 to 1961 will be shown at 6pm, in advance of the the NBC broadcast of the musical "Hairspray Live" from 7pm to 10pm. The National Park Service and Little Rock Central High National Historic Site are sponsoring both watch parties. Admission is free but should be reserved in advance. You need to make a reservation for each screening that you want to attend.
Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "Hairspray Live!" takes place in 1962 Baltimore. Plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on "The Corny Collins Show," a local TV program. When against all odds Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters, including the resident dreamboat, Link; the ambitious mean girl, Amber; an African American boy she meets in detention, Seaweed; and his mother, Motormouth Maybelle, the owner of a local record store played by Jennifer Hudson. Tracy's mother is the indomitable Edna, and she eventually encourages Tracy on her campaign to integrate the all-white "Corny Collins Show."
