Event description

Description

Join us for a lecture with renowned sculptor Willie Cole. Cole assembles and transforms ordinary domestic and used objects such as irons, ironing boards, and high-heeled shoes into imaginative and powerful works of art and installations. Cole’s art speaks to the social, political, and cultural perspectives on the African American experience.

Cole’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the MOMA, the Walker Art Center, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, as well as the National Gallery of Art, among many other museums. Cole received his BFA degree from The School of Visual Arts in New York and he studied at The Art Students League in New York City.

Since 1981, the Steven & Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series has introduced internationally renowned artists, museum curators, scholars, and critics to the South Florida Community.

These speakers have shaped art history through their scholarly, creative, and leadership contributions. They have inspired us to think critically, investigate further, and consider the discourses and practices that shape the world of art.
