While the U.S. is on its way to economic recovery, opportunities for college students remain grim. According to the Economic Policy Institute, “The long-run wage trends for young graduates are bleak, with wages substantially lower today than they were in 2000. Graduating in a bad economy has long-lasting economic consequences. For the next 10 to 15 years, the Class of 2012 will likely earn less than they would have if they had graduated when job opportunities were plentiful.”

And for our female college graduates, this still doesn’t tell the whole story. A recent study by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) reveals that within a year after graduating from college, Gen Y women are already earning $7600/year less than their male counterparts. And to make matters worse, female entry-level, college-educated employees feel as if they don’t possess the skills to effectively negotiate for higher salaries. So they don’t.

The problem is much deeper than simply learning how to speak up and out. As a Career Services Professional you likely experienced many of these same concerns at the start of your career. How do I own my accomplishments in an interview? Find my voice and use it appropriately in my first position? Know when and how to ask for a performance review? Express my desire and preparedness for increasingly responsible work?

For our current generation of female grads, barriers exist even when the goal is not corporate leadership. For more than half of Millennials the goal is to lead one’s own business. Women are striking out on their own in record numbers, hungry for independence and an opportunity to balance work-life on their own terms. The next 10 years will be the “decade of the woman entrepreneur.”

This program is focused on helping young college women develop the skills to network and build relationships with champions for their ideas just as they need to be confident and competent asking for people to invest in what they are creating.

By providing access to one of these three sessions your students will learn how to...

  • Get clear on the questions young professional women MUST answer to create and sustain a rewarding, purpose-driven career
  • Uncover the real reasons Gen Y women STILL aren't achieving pay equity in the workplace
  • Discover how college women get in their own way during interviews - so you can stay out of it
  • Learn the 5 DO's and 5 DONT's for effective salary negotiation
  • Demystify the art and practice of initiating and facilitating important, often times uncomfortable "difficult" conversations in the workplace
