STEP Into the Sun: Solar Training for Design Professionals

This training is specially designed for architects and engineers by the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) and the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Sunshot Initiative.

9:00am – 4:00pm (includes half hour lunch)

Registration begins 8:30am

Learning Objectives
Course participants will learn to…

  • Act in a leadership capacity to increase solar PV deployment in your community and in your practice

  • Use the applicable codes and standards required to design safe solar PV installations

  • Make an actionable connection between policy objectives for solar deployment and AIA sustainability and 2030 goals

  • Distinguish among and understand the appropriate application for different types of solar energy systems

6.5 AIA LU/HSW, 0.65 ICC Preferred Provider CEUs, and 6.5 GBCI CEUs

  • Regular price: $150.00

  • AIA and ASHRAE member discount: $125.00

  • NGO/Veterans/Students: $15 (must present valid ID)

As a special opportunity offered by AIA Potomoac Valley, there will be a shuttle that will leave from the Architecture School at 4:00 pm for anyone attending the training who would like to take a tour of the award winning solar powered LEAFHouse, and return to the School at 4:45 pm.

About the Trainer

Alice Sung, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, ISSP-SA

Alice is the principal and founder of Greenbank Associates, a green building and sustainability consultancy dedicated to climate change action to scale. As a licensed architect with over 25 years of experience, Alice has facilitated the greening of dozens of public, private, and educational facilities, including LEED Platinum, and one of the first K-12 urban school campuses designed to be Grid Neutral/Zero Net Energy. A longtime member of the AIA, USGBC, the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), she has served on the Energy, Climate, Water, Integration and Innovation Subcommittees of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) State and National Technical Advisory Groups.
