Description

2019 STEM Day in Seminole 2019 Workshop Descriptions

Where on Earth should you begin? Take your pick of five (5) totally out-of-this-world workshops facilitated by the people (we call them #rockstars :)) who work up close and personal with rocket science everyday!

Here's what you can expect: to participate in 3 hands-on STEM workshops* (check out the descriptions below)
(*) space is limited; availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Top workshop choices are not guaranteed

Workshop assignments will be revealed at onsite registration.

1) Robotics - BrushBots/Robotic Hand (9 - 9:25 AM , 10 - 10:25 AM or 11 - 11:25 AM)

It’s not like its rocket science…oh wait, yes it is! In this workshop, you will be able to build a robot using nothing but the provided materials! After your robot is built, test it, propelled by your creations. During the workshop, you’ll have the chance to perfect your design and use your robot to complete a task.

2) Magnetic Flux - Magnetic Charge Converter (MC2) Principle (9:30 - 9:55 AM, 10:30 - 10:55 AM or 11:30 - 11:55 AM)

Want to know how to harnes kinetic energy to perform mechanical or electrical work? The Magnetic Charge Converter (MC2) is a system that generates a varying magnetic field. As the charge moves, the magnetic field or flux is generated. Find out more, sign up! (Grades 5 - 8)

(3) Technology/Innovations - Flying Car Design (9:00 - 9:25 AM, 10:00 - 10:25 AM or 11:00 AM - 11:25 AM)

In most urban cities, ride sharing is encouraged to move people swiftly to their destinations. Companies, like NASA, Uber and Lyft, are interested in going beyond the ground grid used for transportation. How about investing in flying cars to transport and ease the traffic grid. Since the average person won’t be able to outright afford a flying car, a ride sharing program is emphasized. Please help us determine design features for building this new flying car technology with safety and economic considerations. (Grades 9 - 12)

(4) Virtual Reality - immersive Simulation Engineering Environment - iSEE (9:30 - 9:55 AM, 10:30 - 10:55 AM or 11:30 AM - 11:55 AM)

iMMERSIVE SIMULATION ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENT (iSEE) is used to verify human to machine integration. Capture human motion and analyze it to ensure safety, efficiency and proper equipment design for human interactions. (Grades 5 - 12)
