Panel experts:

Theresa Deisher, Ph.D., Molecular and Cellular Physiology

Theresa Deisher, Ph.D., has over 20 years of experience in commercial biotechnology, working with companies such as Genentech, Repligen, ZymoGenetics, Immunex, and Amgen, prior to founding AVM Biotechnology http://avmbiotech.com/ and Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute (SCPI) http://soundchoice.org/ in 2008 in Seattle, WA.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford University.  Dr.  Deisher is an inventor on 23 issued US patents, and her discoveries have led to clinical trials of FGF18 for osteoarthritis and cartilage repair, and of Factor XIII for surgical bleeding.


Jay Carpenter, M.D., Internal Medicine

Jay Carpenter, M.D., is board-certified in Internal Medicine.  Dr. Carpenter entered into private practice in Internal Medicine in 1984 in Clearwater, Florida. He is the former Chief of Staff of Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, Florida.  In addition, he is on the founding Board of Directors for Professionals for Excellence in Health Care, a group of physicians, attorneys, nurses, pharmacists, and related health care professionals dedicated to the ethical treatment of persons, born and unborn.

 

Lloyd A. Pierre, Jr, M.D., Family Medicine

Lloyd A. Pierre, Jr, M.D., is board-certified in Family Medicine. He graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, in 1994, and reentered the United States Air Force (USAF) as a Flight Medicine physician. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center Family Medicine Residency program in 2001 and continued his career in the USAF. In 2009, Dr. Pierre began working at Midwest Minor Medical in order to have more time to devote to establishing Sancta Familia Medical Apostolate, a multi-disciplinary medical clinic in Omaha which upholds the moral and ethical teachings of the Roman Catholic Church without compromise.


William Toffler, M.D., Family Medicine

William Toffler, M.D., received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1976. He completed his residency in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1979. He then had a private practice in Sweet Home, Oregon. In 1985, he assumed a full time faculty position at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, as director of Family Practice Patient Care Services, where he continues to serve as director of the education section in Family Medicine.  Dr. Toffler has been involved in sports medicine, medical ethics, and has been one of the leading opponents of assisted suicide in Oregon and nationwide.
