Description

Steel City Jug Slammers w/ The Brookses + Moses Nesh — March 17, 2017 — Red Light Café, Atlanta, GA

Like juke-joint heroes of the early 1900s, Steel City Jug Slammers perform Delta blues and old-time jug music. And they do so well enough to champion the Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands, as well as earn an appearance on A Prairie Home Companion! This eclectic group of young musicians plays all traditional and homemade instruments, bringing a variety of wonderfully nostalgic sounds into the room. In return, comes the warmth of a musical art form that was almost lost in history. Don’t miss this unique evening of sure-to-be-memorable music!

Moses Nesh opens the show at 8pm followed by The Brookses.

$7 Adv – $10 Door

Doors @ 7:00 PM

All ticket sales are final. No refunds. Online ticket sales end 6pm day of show.

Meg Brooks and Jim Brooks are The Brookses — a daughter/father duo whose love of traditional folk, country and blues shines through in their interpretation of classic songs as well as well-crafted originals. Their tight harmonies and ringing guitar lines evoke the sound of Johnny and June, Gram and Emmy Lou, and the Everly Brothers. Based in Atlanta, they play both as a duo and with a full band.

Born in Cherryville, NC, Moses Nesh grew up playing mandolin in the family bluegrass band, singing gospel songs in church, and listening to jump blues on the farm his people "bought from the king, I reckon." He does not feel at home in this world.

His first LP, "The Lovely Ohio" is out on Dying for Bad Music, Ore Mountains, Germany.
