Event Details

Menu Change for Tonight’s Meeting … but Still Tasty!

Want some tips from a battle-scarred proposal veteran on how to write a winning proposal?  Then you’ll enjoy “How to Write a Winning Proposal: Near Misses Only Count in Horseshoes and Nuclear War,” by 35-year proposal veteran Dan Voss from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, who has agreed to stand in for tonight’s speaker who was suddenly taken ill and cannot be here.

Although Dan’s experience is with competitive aerospace proposals—some of them upwards of 20,000 pages with multi-billion contracts at stake—the principles he covers in this lively 30-minute presentation are applicable to all proposals: aerospace, commercial, domestic, international, grant proposals for non-profits, award applications (yes!), and even resumes, cover letters, and portfolios (definitely yes!)

He also tosses in a few war stories along the way. He might even be persuaded to exhume his “Elephant Theory of Management Sensitivity” from the crypt where it has lain since Dan made his debut as an STC speaker at the 12th Practical Conference on Communication (PCOC 12) in Knoxville back in—well, never mind how far back!  J

And you’ll definitely hear about the Alamo, Godzilla, and the Titanic!

We apologize for the late substitution.  We received notice just moments ago that our scheduled speaker had fallen ill and would not be able to make it.

So we had to put a call in to Tennessee.  Fortunately, our speaker was home:

Organizer

STC Orlando Central Florida Chapter

The Society for Technical Communication (stc.org), is a professional organization that “advances the theory and practice of technical communication across all user abilities and media so that both businesses and customers benefit from safe, appropriate, and effective use of products, information, and services.”

Here in Central Florida, we provide programs of interest and value to local practitioners—experienced and novice—to promote best practices, facilitate networking, and provide educational resources within our group and in the wider worlds of business and education. Our close ties to the University of Central Florida have nourished student-to-professional transitions and enabled our members and visitors to benefit from knowledge in both the theory and practice arenas.

Orlando Central Florida STC Chapter meets most months on the third Thursday. Our schedules are posted elsewhere on this site, and the current month’s offering is highlighted on this page. We urge you to give us a try—first meeting is free—and see whether membership is for you.  We welcome all visitors.

Please join us: check out our programs and let us know what you think. We are always interested in hearing how we can improve what we offer. Please write to (president@stc-orlando.org) with comments, feedback, and suggestions. And we hope to welcome you in person at our meetings.
