Event Details

As a technical communicator, you know that MadCap Flare has very powerful “responsive” features – responsive output and responsive layout – but how do you use them together? What’s the overall process of making a documentation project responsive? How does taking a project responsive affect its design? That’s the subject of this hands-on workshop, where you’ll make a tiny but representative project responsive by:

  • Enabling the responsive output option and setting breakpoints.

  • Formatting each medium using the Skin editor.

  • Modifying content using the Responsive Layout editor.

  • Creating truly adaptive content (think changing “click” to “tap” automatically as the screen size changes) by working directly in the CSS.

  • Looking at how to modify tables, images, and more, to make them responsive.

The result will be a fully responsive target that can take full advantage of desktop, tablet, and phone displays.

You don’t have to be a Flare expert to take this workshop. If you’ve taken a course, viewed the MadCap webinars, or completed a project, you’ll be fine.

Who this workshop is for:

This workshop is for technical communicators who have MadCap Flare and want to use it to create responsive web documents.

What you’ll need to bring:

  • A fully-charged laptop running Flare 2018 or higher and an up-to-date version of your browser.

  • A minimal familiarity with Flare, either by taking a course or completing at least one project.

  • Your power cord and transformer. (There will be limited access to power on-site.)

What you should bring:

  • A mouse. (It’s a lot easier making fine cursor movements than with a track-pad.)

What you don't have to bring:

  • Breakfast or coffee. (We will provide both.)
