Event description
It takes extraordinary courage (and practice!) to stay open, grounded and loving in the work of social service and social justice.

About this Event

About

In this day-long workshop, we will engage somatic and contemplative tools that help us practice to:

  • center, resource and reconnect through relational compassion practice;
  • recognize our “stress shapes” or habitual embodied patterns that show up in challenging contexts;
  • begin to heal and transform our “stress shapes”;
  • embody a more compassionate, grounded stance in the midst of stress, burnout and systemic limitations.

This program is open to all people willing to engage in personal and communal healing work. No prior experience necessary. We have found this curriculum to be especially beneficial for those who spend time in the social service or social justice arenas, including teachers, social workers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, community advocates, and organizers.

Presenters

Ana Hristić, MA, LCSW is a core faculty with the Courage of Care Coalition. As the training coordinator for Trauma Informed Oregon, Ana specializes in providing programming and consultation to organizations and providers on topics related to implementing trauma informed care. Ana has years of direct service experience working with children, teens, and families in special education, acute residential care, therapeutic wilderness camps, foster care & adoption, and outpatient behavioral health. Ana’s work and facilitation is also informed by years of affiliation with the Foundation for Active Compassion, as a meditation student and teacher.

Brooke D. Lavelle, Ph.D. is the Co-Founder and President of the Courage of Care Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to facilitating the co-creation of a more just, compassionate world. Courage’s diverse, interdisciplinary, multi-generational team provides training and consultation in relational compassion practices, anti-oppressive pedagogies, restorative healing methods and systems tools to social service and caring professionals, as well as to educational, spiritual and human rights organisations.

Location and Dates

The retreat will be held on Sunday, March 15h from 9-5pm at a community center in Portland, OR. Light vegetarian lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Registration

We offer a sliding scale registration fee for our courses and workshops in service of economic justice.

Supporter: $145

We ask those with class privilege (eg raised in middle-upper class homes and/or making over $62,000 per year), access to financial resources and/or access to organizational professional development funds to please consider paying the full course fee. This practice of solidarity giving enables us to continue to create content and to provide scholarship support to others with less financial resources, thereby building and strengthening our community.

Sustainer: $95

We invite those with less class privilege (eg making less than $62,000 per year and/or raised in working class homes) or with limited financial resources or recent financial hardships to consider paying our supporter fee. This enables us to cover basic course development and to provide ongoing community support.

Scholar: $45

We invite those with less class privilege (eg making less than $24,000 per year), extreme financial hardship and/or those representing traditionally marginalized identities to register at our scholarship fee.

***Should you need more support, please do not hesitate to ask! We do believe it is important for everyone to contribute to our community, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Let us know what you need to make the event possible.

Access Needs: Please also let us know if you have any access needs for this event.
