We are excited to invite you to our Statewide Regional Academy on Mathematics Education! This free conference will focus on professional development in mathematics for K-12 teachers. The emphasis will be on orchestrating productive teaching.
This conference focuses on using the Smith and Stein book, 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions. These 5 practices focus on deliberate moves a teachers should be using in the classroom to facilitate meaningful mathematics discussions that encourage students to connect to and understand the mathematics being discussed. The book will be provided to each educator who attends the mathematics academy.
On Friday and Saturday, our keynote speaker is Dr. Brad Findell from The Ohio State University. Meals will be provided.
WHAT TO BRING: If you teach grades 9-12, please bring a graphing calculator. All participants may find it helpful to bring a tablet or laptop for sessions, but these are not required. Free WiFi is available.
PARKING: Parking is free, and no permits are needed.
TICKETS: There is no need for paper tickets or to print this email. Your name will be on a guest list at the door.
WAITLIST: If the tickets for your grade level are "SOLD OUT", please email Tena Welfring at email@example.com to be put on the waitlist.
COLLEGE CREDIT: One (1) college credit is available through Idaho State University when you attend both days. The cost is $50. Forms will be provided onsite.
FOOD: Dinner will be provided on Friday evening. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided on Saturday.
HOTEL ROOMS: A block of rooms is being held for participants. Please contact the Hampton Inn, 1658 Fillmore Street, Twin Falls, at (208) 734-2233, for room reservations at the rate of $89+tax/fees per night, under the group name “Math Academy”. Payment for hotel rooms is the responsibility of the participant.
HOURS: Day 1, registration will be 4:30-5:00 p.m., with the conference beginning at 5:00-8:00 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Day 2, Breakfast will be at 8:00-8:30 a.m., with the conference beginning at 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
