Event Details

Do you have questions about patents, trademarks, and other ways to protect your startup's intellectual property?

Then join us Wednesday, October 25th at 6:00 p.m. for a very special workshop by John Cabeca, the Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office of Silicon Valley (USPTO).

This is a rare opportunity to learn from and ask questions directly to an IP expert of an important government agency, the USPTO.

As Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office of Silicon Valley, John is responsible for the agency’s strategic direction, ensuring initiatives and programs are tailored to Silicon Valley’s unique ecosystem of industries and stakeholders.  Starting as a patent examiner to Director of the USPTO 25 years later, John fully understands the unique challenges the startup industry faces here in Silicon Valley.

In this workshop designed specifically for the unique needs of startups, founders and entrepreneurs in the tech industry, you will learn:

  • In-depth Intellectual Property Overview of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
  • Why startups and entrepreneurs should consider protecting their IP?
  • Knowing what should be protected and when to do it?
  • Understanding the risks of early disclosure and how you can lose your IP.
  • Best practices for working with the USPTO to obtain IP that is valuable to a start-up.
  • What time and fees are expected for a typical patent and/or trademark for start-ups?
  • What resources and assistance are available for startups through USPTO?
  • And much more, including your questions.

When it comes to innovating, creating new things and entering new territory, having a proactive IP strategy is often better than being reactive to issues later on.

While IP attorneys do their best to advise, this workshop provides you with an opportunity to learn and ask questions directly to a definitive resource within the USPTO.

Limited seats available. Dinner and drinks will be served.
