If you've ever felt the urge to build something, listen up. A very special edition of Startup Weekend is hitting Toronto this November 22-24 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Startup Weekend Maker Edition is your chance to get up close and personal with laser cutters, 3D printers and electronics, build rapid prototypes and launch your startup… all in just 54 hours!

What is a Maker event? Glad you asked! Maker events are focused on building physical products during the weekend...awesome right? The event takes place at OCAD U, where you’ll have access to a workshop full of maker tools and materials plus guidance and training from our expert maker mentors. The possibilities of what can be created during the weekend are just about endless.

The winner of Startup Weekend Maker Edition will go on to compete in the Global Startup Battle, fighting it out with other startups from around the globe for a chance to win an incredible pack of prizes and some serious exposure for their startup.

If that wasn't exciting enough, GE will be helping out with the event as well, bringing in industrial design experts to help teams succeed. With other sponsors like The Working Group, T+H Events and BDC the access to experts and chance at startup success (and a whole lot of learning and experience), is off the charts!

Come pitch, join a team, iron out your business model, and build away!

In just 54 hours teams will come together to create startups from scratch and learn about entrepreneurship in a hands-on and meaningful way. Makers and hackers will join forces with developers, designers and business experts to build prototypes and launch startups that use hardware and software to

Startup Weekend

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over a thousand past events in 110+ countries around the world.

The non-profit organization is located in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
