Do I need to come up with an idea?
If you have an idea for a startup, then great! We hope you pitch for the weekend on Friday Night. If you don't have an idea, that's still quite alright! Come and spend the weekend, listen to the ideas being pitched, and see if something excites your interest! The weekend is about elevating startup ideas, getting outside of your comfort zone and learning from each other. If you have more questions, check out the Startup Weekend FAQ below!

Is this event for me?

If you are interested in entrepreneurship the answer is most likely yes. Techstars Startup Weekend attendee backgrounds are sometimes technical (developers, coders, designers) sometimes business (marketing, finance, law). But because this Edition is organized in collaboration With Lingnan University, which context is Liberal Arts, we are expecting to have many attendants who are new to the startup scene. To put it simply, if you are motivated to build a product or startup and open to new ideas you’ll fit right in.

Do I have to participate all three days?

Apart from Organizers, selected Coaches, Speakers, and press, everyone who attends the event is expected to participate all three days. This is important not only to preserve the ‘vibe’ of the weekend (“no talk, all action”) but also to minimize distractions/disruptions for working teams. However, at most Techstars Startup Weekends a “Sunday Presentations Only” registration option is available for those wishing to only view the teams’ final presentations. (Please check the registration option to attend only "Demo Day" as an observer.)

Do I need a team?

Everyone who attends the event as an attendee is expected to participate in a team. But you are not expected to come over with the team. You will form a team together with other participants with our guidance. So the only thing you need is a team spirit.

Do I have to pitch an idea to attend?

No, but we encourage you to! You can pitch an idea you've been thinking about for years or something last minute you think of during the event. It's a great experience and invaluable practice for public speaking.

How do I prepare?

- Do some research. Market research and background information will give you a better understanding of the problem you're trying to solve.
- Practice your pitch. You'll have 60 seconds to persuade other attendees to join your team. Make it clear, concise, and convincing! REGISTER for our following Event to Enhance your PITCHING SKILLS!
- Get familiar with our tools for the weekend, head over to
- Bring a friend! Events are better with good company!
- Get some rest.
