Event description

Description

Form a team. Pitch an idea. Launch a company.

Engineering, Computer Sciences, Business/Non-Technical,
and Design Majors are HIGHLY encouraged to participate.

Where/When: November 3-5, Kick-off at 6:00 pm Friday night, wraps up at 9pm Sunday night.

Colorado State University- Rockwell Hall West, Fort Collins, CO

Colorado State University invites experienced and aspiring entrepreneurs from across campus and throughout the greater Fort Collins community to participate in developing business ideas, from pitch to prototype, in a three-day immersive workshop. It is the second Fort Collins Startup Weekend, hosted by the College of Business and the Institute for Entrepreneurship at CSU.

The Startup Weekend propels participants to launch a creative business, product, or service by implementing the Lean Startup process. Participants will experience the highs, lows, fun and pressure of startup life as they learn to create a real company. They will also meet and network with experienced mentors, investors, co-founders, and sponsors with the real-world experience and knowledge of what it really takes to get a business idea started. There is no experience or technology experience required, but participants are strongly encouraged to bring an idea to pursue.

What to expect-

The 54-hour workshop will kick off after a keynote speech and introductions from the workshop’s facilitator and organizing team. Participants will then jump into pitches and voting, and form teams around top ideas. Throughout the weekend, teams will research their audience and work intensively to create and formalize a pitch and prototype demonstrating the potential of their business. The event culminates in a “Shark Tank” style pitch competition where teams present their business and demonstrate their prototypes to a panel of experienced entrepreneurs. The top teams with the best pitches will be awarded prizes, including in-kind donations from sponsors and partners.

Who should participate?

Anyone interested in startups, launching a business, entrepreneurship, finance, law or company growth should join. Startup Weekend demands teamwork, creativity, determination, and focus from everyone involved. Mentors with business and technical experience will help teams, but it is up to the participants to push the limits of their comfort zones and learn new skills.

The first Startup Weekend held last February welcomed 50 community members and students from all across the CSU campus. Many teams and participants have since continued their work on the project they created in the workshop. Anyone, including community members outside of Fort Collins, can participate by purchasing tickets.

Included with your ticket purchase, you will also receive:

- One Fort Collins Startup Weekend T-Shirt

- Dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

- Light Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday and Sunday
