Startup Success Boot Camp (III) - Intellectual Property
Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 1:45 PM to 4:00 PM
Fenwick & West LLP, 801 California Street, Mountain View, CA
You might have heard that the overall success rate for first-time entrepreneurs is only 12% -- Do you want to become one of those lucky guys who created successful businesses?
CHAIN is hosting our Startup Success Boot Camp again to help you build a winning business. It is a series of workshops intended to help Chinese entrepreneurs in silicon valley -- such as yourself -- to learn the nuts and bolts of starting a business venture and understand the challenges and risks in the startup process. No fluff, only practical information you can apply right away.
This is an invitation to the third workshop focusing on intellectual property (IP).
Insufficient IP protection can make funding and growth much more difficult for a startup. IP covers all these areas and more:
The speaker Dr. Mike Farn is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group at Fenwick & West. Mike has 20 years experience in developing patent portfolios for startups in a cost effective manner. Before becoming a lawyer, Mike worked at M.I.T./Lincoln Laboratory, where his job was to invent new optical technologies and then transfer these technologies to private corporations for commercialization. He entered the legal field in part because the attorneys supporting his activities as a scientist did not adequately understand the commercial marketplace. Mike received both his Ph.D. and his J.D. from Stanford.
Mike will explain the IP areas that a startup entrepreneur such as yourself should know and plan for.
