Social entrepreneurs pitch leading impact investors and thought leaders with solutions to some of the toughest challenges we face.


StartOut Los Angeles is excited to present a pitch competition for mission-driven startups striving for profit and purpose. We have assembled a stellar list of LGBTQ-led Social Enterprises who will pitch top advisors and impact investors from Backstage Capital, Social Impact Capital, Headspace, The 22 Fund, Social Venture Partners, and Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator.


Learn from leading voices in Social Enterprise and Impact Investing, as our Host Scott Evans (NBC’s Access Hollywood Co-Host) leads a panel discussion on the current state of Social Enterprise, before five forward-looking founders pitch their startups’ vision on how to create social change while doing well.

Lauryn Nwankpa, Head of Social Impact, Headspace (LinkedIn)

Lauryn Nwankpa is a social impact strategist, a start-up advisor, and an entrepreneur. As Head of Social Impact at Headspace, she implements strategic, sustainable and measurable initiatives that ensures Headspace is accessible, relevant, and affordable to all. Lauryn is a founding and active member of Headspace’s employee driven Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. She also established the first ever social impact flagship program, Headspace for Educators, and deepens Headspace’s role in the greater LA community by hosting and curating community events at the Headspace headquarters in Santa Monica, CA. Lauryn is a member of the Santa Monica Tech Council, an early stage start-up advisor through the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Bixel Exchange's Startup Launch Tech Small Business Development Center, and a scholar mentor (and active alumni) of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.



Peter Bruce-Clark, Operating Partner, Social Impact Capital (Twitter)

Peter is Operating Partner at Social Impact Capital, an early-stage impact venture capital firm based in New York and San Francisco. Covering the West Coast, Peter is in charge of all fund and firm operations, including fundraising, fund administration and management, deal sourcing and diligence coordination, as well as community building between top-tier venture capital firms, corporations, and critical players within the global startup ecosystem.



Amiah Sheppard, Director, Backstage Capital LA (Twitter)

Amiah Sheppard is an innovation curator and investor with a focus on technology companies led by underrepresented founders at Backstage Capital. While her concentration is on early stage industry agnostic startups, she specializes in analyzing beauty, wellness, consumer and defense technology companies. She is an active advisor with a number of companies leveraging her expertise in customer engagement and marketing, strategy, operations, and capital efficiency to help accelerate their growth exponentially. Additionally, Amiah has been featured on HBCU.vc's 30 under 30 The Future of Venture Capital, she’s a member of Columbia Venture Community, and is currently the Visionary Investor of the Year via VentureFuel and a Stat Zero Fellow. She is based in Los Angeles.


Christine Margiotta, Executive Director, Social Venture Partners (Twitter)

Christine Margiotta is passionate about channeling the collective power of Angelenos to create a more just and loving LA. In her role as Executive Director of SVP, she leads a purpose-driven community of nonprofits, individuals, and foundations creating profound systemic transformation. For nearly 20 years, Christine has leveraged a blend of collective impact, grant making, and policy change to create progress on a wide range of

issues, including homelessness, education, racial and economic justice, and LGBTQ rights.


Tracy Gray, Founder and Partner, The 22 Fund (LinkedIn)

Ms. Gray is the Founder and Managing Partner of The 22 Fund (The 22), an impact, growth equity and advisory firm with a mission of creating the quality jobs of the future by increasing the export capacity of manufacturing companies, intentionally targeting women- and minority-owned businesses. She is a Board of Director of Applife Digital Solutions, Inc (OTC: ADLS), a publicly traded, fully reporting start-up incubator and venture studio, and of the California State University, Dominguez Hills Philanthropic Foundation endowment, where she serves as Treasurer/Secretary on the Investment Committee. She is also an Executive in Residence at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and chairs LACI’s Diversity in Entrepreneurship Advisory Council. Ms. Gray is the first Social Impact Fellow at the UC Berkeley Haas Business School’s Center for Equity, Gender and Leadership.


Taj Ahmad Eldridge, Sr. Director of Investment, Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LinkedIn/ Twitter)


Taj Ahmad Eldridge serves as Senior Director of Investment at the Los Angeles Cleantech incubator (LACI) focusing on assisting energy, transportation, & circular economy startups raise intelligent capital. Prior, Taj served as the inaugural Director for the accelerator at the University of California in Riverside, California, including helping launch the first $10m micro venture fund in the Inland Empire region. Prior to this appointment, Taj was an investor and founder in 4 startups, 2 of which who have been acquired. Taj began his career as a banker with UBS and Wells Fargo. Taj has degrees from Texas A&M University Commerce, Pepperdine University, and Claremont Graduate University.
