Starting the Conversation...How to Discuss LGBTQ+ Topics in Our Families is an evening presentation open to K-8 parents and students attending 6th -8th grade. This 2 part evening will begin with a panel discussion that made up of Stevenson HS students who are members of the GSA as well as Parents of LGBTQ Youth in the community. The panel will share their personal experiences with the audience and answer questions.
Part 2 of the evening presentation will be breakout sessions for parents and students. Students will participate in a guided discussion led by Lizzy Appleby and August Hupp of Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook. In this discussion, students will learn how to be an ally to friends, how to reach out to a trusted adult, and how to create a welcoming home and community for friends who are LGBTQ.
At the same time, parents will participate in a guided discussion with Carolyn Wahlskog of 360 Youth Services. She will review LGBTQ terminology with parents, discuss the use of age-appropriate dialog, and discuss the basics of supporting a child who is LGBTQ in your home or in your community.
We hope you will join us for this unique and informative evening. Families from Districts D73, D76, D79, D103, and D103 are all welcome. The presentation is proudly sponsored by D103 and D102
