Starting Strength Challenge Atlanta
Sat, April 1, 2017, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM EDT
Atlanta Barbell is happy to announce that we will be hosting our first Strength Meet April 1st! Starting Strength Coaches across the US will hold a combined strength meet on the same weekend in April. And this year, Atlanta is a part of it. Not only will you get to compete against the lifters that attend your local meet, but your results will be compared with the competitors from all the other locations. The contests will be held in the following cities:
- Atlanta, GA
- Chicago, IL
- Gardiner, NY
- Gig Harbor, WA
- Long Island City, NY
- Oakland, CA
- Omaha, NE
- Wichita Falls, TX
This is a strength meet where the contested lifts will be the squat, press, and deadlift, which differs from a powerlifting meet. There is no bench press. Instead, you will perform the standing press. Deadlifts must to be done conventionally, with the feet inside of the hands. You do not weigh in prior to the meet. Instead, you weigh out after your final deadlift attempt. A full set of rules can be found here: http://usstrengthlifting.com/rules/
The Starting Strength Challenge will be the first combined meet held as part of the newly formed US Strengthlifting Federation (USSF). Meets held under the USSF sanction in 2017 will serve as qualifying contests for a national competition to be held in January 2018 at a location to be determined. For the first year, successfully making a total in one of our meets will qualify you for the national competition.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the refund policy?
When you purchase a ticket, you guarantee yourself a slot at the meet with limited attendance. As a result, all ticket sales are final and refunds cannot be issued.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
It is, although you need to contact Alex Kennedy (Alex@AtlantaBarbellGym.com) to make sure that he has the new information and can process the transfer.
Are sumo deadlifts allowed at the meet?
Unfortunately not. You can take as wide of a stance as you like, but your feet must be inside of your hands.
Why are you performing a weigh out?
We want our weight classes to be accurate representations of the lifter's bodyweight on the day of the meet. Weigh-ins at some point prior to the meet allow for temprarily cutting weight, which is a practice we hope to discourage.
Is it true that Atlanta Barbell is the greatest gym in the South East?
Yes. This is true.
