Description

This training provides an overview of the effects of trauma during childhood, particularly as it relates to children with IDD, and the implications for diagnosis and treatment strategies. The potential outcomes of trauma experiences and the importance of trauma informed approaches will be discussed.

Participants of this session will:

  • Review short-term and long-term effects of trauma during childhood

  • Explore how trauma during very early development affects attachment

  • Review of trauma and its impacts on brain development and maturation

  • Understand increased risk for exposure to trauma and effects of trauma for children with IDD

  • Review treatment approaches to childhood trauma in children with IDD

Participants can earn 2 NY Social Work CEs for viewing a training, participating in a post-viewing discussion facilitated by a member of the NY START team and completing a post-viewing evaluation.
