StarShine Academy was started, in part, to heal the wound of 9/11 by ensuring that kids around the world could get an education that would enable them to be successful, happy—and peaceful. Every year since the founding of StarShine Academy in 2002, StarShine has conducted a special extended event called "11 Days of Peace and Sustainability". The 11 Days begin by honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11, and end by celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace on 9/21. In between, StarShine helps children and adults learn each day about a different topic of ecological or cultural importance
On September 11, the first of our 11 Days, there will be two special events. In the morning, StarShine Academy holds a free public ceremony in memory of 9/11. The ceremony will include a color guard, a spiritual invocation by Havasupai Spiritual Emissary Uqualla, bagpipes, a dove release, ceremonial drums, a thank you to all who helped build our new school, and a ribbon-cutting with local dignitaries.

In the evening StarShine Academy will host a tribute benefit dinner to honor the inaugural recipients of StarShine's Sowie Awards, given to people who have helped StarShine thrive while simultaneously serving as an example to our students and the broader community of what can be achieved with the right combination of desire, knowledge, skills, and hard work. Visit http://starshineacademy.org to learn more about the dinner.
