Event description

Whether you love beach music, the glory days of crooners, or just want a way to help local veterans, nationally-known musicians from across the country are descending into New Bern this summer for the perfect mix of the three.

Bill Stafford of Stafford Entertainment & Talent and “Lewis n Clark,” made up of the married singing duo Von Lewis and Abbey Clark, are helping organize “Stars & Stripes,” a night of musical entertainment to benefit Whitehurst-Ware American Legion Post No. 539 in New Bern to celebrate the national organization’s 100th birthday.

The show, “Stars & Stripes,” is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center, 2000 Dr. M.L.K. Blvd. Tickets sales will open to the public on Aug. 1.

Online tickets are $25 plus a $2.00 credit/convenience fee charged per ticket. $25 Tickets are available for CASH or CHECK only at Carolina Creations, 317-A POLLOCK ST. New Bern, NC- The seat choices are limited when buying in cash or check .

To buy tickets online with more seating options, visit www.StarsAndStripesShow.com for more seating options.

The event will feature beach music from The Embers’ co-founder Jackie Gore, and classic hits throughout the decades from Lewis n Clark, and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. - Murphy was the winner of “America’s Got Talent” in 2011 for his Frank Sinatra-like style.

MC for the event will be Miss North Carolina 1975 & Miss America Runner-Up, Connie Dorn Rist — who was involved in classic USO shows. Comedian William White of Washington, N.C.’s I.C. Improv will be co-hosting the event.

Attendees will be able to get autographs and photos with the talent following the show.

Von Lewis said Ray Savage of Savage’s Wood Burning Pizzeria approached him with the concept last year as a way to celebrate the American Legion’s centennial. Von Lewis knew of no better person to help flesh out the idea and turn the show into a reality other than his music booking agent, Bill Stafford of Stafford Entertainment & Talent. Stafford and Savage combined to forge the idea as a benefit for the Whitehurst-Ware American Legion Post No. 539 in New Bern. In turn, the New Bern post will be using the funds raised to support JROTC scholarships.

“I knew it was the perfect opportunity to bring in nationally-known stars to do a show together and with Bill Stafford spearheading the project, there is no way that this show will be anything other spectacular,” Lewis said.

The planners are also including future soldiers, so JROTC students from Craven County high schools are volunteering to help service the event as ushers, ticket-takers, crowd management, and presentation of colors.

Lewis n Clark” have been performing in Eastern NC for the past two years but have never undertaken anything of this magnitude. Stafford Entertainment and Talent and “Lewis n Clark” have partnered with WITN and Dick Broadcasting Inc. to create the perfect team to accomplish the feat.

“I’m so excited to see a show like this come to New Bern,” Abbey Clark said. “We hope this is just the beginning of this style of entertainment in our hometown.”

The couple recently performed at the famed Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles, and they couldn’t help but brag about how much they love their New Bern home.

“This is Landau’s first time here,” Von Lewis said. “We want to show what New Bern’s all about.”

Von Lewis is also known for his role of Bobby Rydell in the popular film “Green Book,” which won the Oscar for Best Picture earlier this year. He said he will be singing some of the pop idol’s hits at Stars & Stripes.

Though the show’s primary goal is to raise funds for the veterans group, Von Lewis said the event is open to the general public and encourages anyone who would enjoy a night of good music and laughs to come.

Sponsorships at different levels are available, even including purchasing tickets for local military families. For more information on how you can give or be a part of this magical evening of entertainment, contact Bill Stafford, 252-560-6581 or Bill@StaffordEntertainmentandTalent.com ; OR Amanda Page at 910-471-2621.

Von Lewis, a native of Vanceboro, said he grew up around military friends and families and is ecstatic to be able to give back.

“We’re honored to be able to support with our talents, which is in no way a comparison to what they give to us, what the military families have sacrificed,” he said. “But we’re honored to give tribute to them and celebrate the American Legion’s 100th year.”
