Standup Comedy & Storytelling Camp (Ages 14-17)
Did a funny thing happen on the way to the store? What's in the garage? How was your first year at that school? Why do we still say "dial" the phone? In this camp, we explore the events and experiences of real life, focusing on unique comedic elements to create compelling stories and hilarious comedy routines. Campers learn to focus and practice awareness as they tell stories, listening for comedic possibility in the absurd, strange, and sometimes dramatic events. They will learn the mechanics of joke telling and comedic devices such as irony, hyperbole and parody. All campers will share an original written piece during a showcase performance.
DSI Comedy Camps
DSI camps will help students: Improve verbal ability; Enhance active listening skills; Build body awareness and Boost self-confidence. Improvisation and acting can have a positive impact on students both on- and off-stage. By learning performance games in a safe environment, DSI students are encouraged to take risks and they develop the ability to both tell stories collaboratively and work in the moment.
DSI splits camps based on age, not based on experience. Students can register for a comedy camp level as long as they fit that age range by Thursday June 1, 2017.
Each session runs Monday-Friday from 9AM - 3PM at our theater in Chapel Hill.
Tuition is $235 for each one week program. Financial assistance may be available. High School students with improv experience may also apply for our youth internship program. Email email@example.com for more information.
NO COMEDY OR ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
