Standing Together for Transformative Change, A4SD Weekend Workshop
Event Information
Description
Join us to hear from key national coalition partners, to reflect on civil society engagement in the first four years of the HLPF and how we can work together to improve accountability in follow up and review processes.
09:30-10:30 Opening Panel on- Where are we now with the SDGs? How to deliver transformative change by 2020… and 2030
We are now 4 years into the 2030 Agenda but we know that governments reporting at the Voluntary National Reviews have provided very mixed pictures of progress and we are aware that civil society involvement has also been patchy in the first cycle. We will hear from key activists on how to overcome the challenges of implementation and how to ensure that we push for voice, equality, climate and environmental justice to leave no one behind and truly deliver transformative change.
10:30-11:00 Coffee break
11:00-12:30 Moderated discussion- National perspectives from VNR countries
The Voluntary National Reviews provide the core of the follow up and review process, as in previous years we will spend time learning and sharing with key national coalitions on their experience with organising a civil society process to engage with the VNR and the delivery of spotlight reports.
National coalitions including: Ghana, Cambodia, The Philippines, Mauritania… more TBC
12:30-13:30 Lunch
13:30-15:00 Panel- Stepping stones: Improving accountability in the follow up and review mechanisms towards reform of the HLPF
2019 will mark the end of the first cycle of review, so it’s a good time to take stock of what has been achieved so far. Many CSO partners have taken part in the VNRs, UN Regional Sustainable Development Forums and HLPF over recent years and have inputted into key recommendations on how to improve the follow up and review mechanisms. It is expected that a full review of the HLPF process will take place after the SDG summit in September, so this is a crucial time to push for a more accountable process.
