We invite you to join TACID and Stand Up for Mental Health for an evening of laughter and hope.
David Granirer is the founder of Stand Up for Mental Health, www.standupformentalhealth.com, a project where people with mental health challenges turn their problems into comedy. His work was featured in the documentary, Cracking Up, which won a prestigious Voice Award.
This show features David and a group of Tacoma area residents he has trained to perform comedy all about their recovery journeys.
By giving mental health consumers a powerful voice we help reduce public stigma and discrimination around mental health challenges. “The idea is that laughing at our setbacks raises us above them. It makes people go from despair to hope, and hope is crucial to anyone struggling with adversity" says Granirer.
Two of our featured comics have this to say about Stand Up for Mental Health;
"It has helped with my recovery. Things that would eat at me before are dissolving away like bread in water." -Tony Price
"I have given my recovery story in the past to professional and peer groups, often feeling drained and exposed after the experience. Every time we do comedy, I feel built up, energized and able to go forth to see a new perspective." - Laurel Lemke
