Event description

Description

In these tumultuous times, we need our favorite actors, musicians, and comedians to do what they do best. Speak earnestly about politics? No! Entertain you for a great cause? Yes! Because when the Titanic sank, the band kept playing! Except in this case, the band will be raising money for something that can fix the boat. And Leonardo DiCaprio won’t have to die.

The cause: The American Civil Liberties Union. Also known as the ACLU.

On Friday, March 31st at 7pm EST, Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU will stream on Facebook Live. It promises to be a historic event marking the first time in history people have something productive to do on Facebook on a Friday night. Please tune in between stalking your ex and realizing that guy from high school who wore shorts in the winter is now a professional body-builder.

Stand for Rights will feature appearances by such A-listers as Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Ellie Kemper, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Jon Hamm, Mahershala Ali, and many more. We say A-listers because, after this benefit, the White House will no doubt add them to some kind of a list.

"Our work in the courts is essential right now to hold off the worst of the abuses," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "But it is also the collective will and tireless actions of 'we the people' that serve as a bulwark against unconstitutional and wrong-headed policies and executive orders. By supporting our work through this telethon, we can fight even harder to defend the rights guaranteed by our Constitution."

The event will be filmed live in New York City and is being produced by Friend of a Friend Productions in collaboration with Funny or Die. Original videos produced by Funny Or Die will premiere throughout the broadcast.

Please join us for a night of entertainment as we raise money and awareness for this 97-year-old American institution that fights for you.

All profits go to the ACLU.
