Event description

Description

On Monday, January 21, 2019, the Multicultural Arts Leadership Institute (MALI), a network of over 100 local arts professionals will take a stand against bigotry and exclusion.

The current economic and political climate has created a situation where intolerance and exclusion are becoming increasingly common. In addition, the idea of an equitable multicultural society is being challenged from the highest levels of government

People of Color, Muslims, Immigrants, and the LGBTQ community, in particular, continue to be targets of discrimination and harassment across and the nation and unfortunately right here in San Jose.

STAND!: A Day of Art and Solidarity

In the spirit, Dr. Martin Luther King's concept of "Beloved Community" a wide array of multicultural artists will gather to make art, perform, and build greater solidarity with the most vulnerable residents in our city. The day will begin with music, dance, and visual art workshops for youth and families with an emphasis on creating work that reflects the values of tolerance, inclusion, and diversity. The lunch hour will be highlighted by poetry, music, and storytelling from a diverse group of multicultural artists curated by arts non-profit Mosiac Silicon Valley.
