Description
Party like it's the 1765 Stamp Act Protest!
The rabble rousers who initiated Newport's 1765 Stamp Act Protest, one of the first events that sparked the American Revolution, recruited participants by promising them "strong drink and Cheshire cheese." Following the afternoon reenactment of the Protest, join the team of costumed interpreters--tea drinkers and ruffians alike--for a Stamp Act party in the spirit of the 18th century.
Enjoy Newport Storm’s Hurricane Amber Ale, Rhode Island Blueberry, India Point Ale and Summer Hefeweizen. Of course, cheese will be served, presented by Narragansett Creamery, along with other hors d'oeuvres.
The Stamp Act Party takes place immediately following the afternoon events at the 1739 Colony House, the same location as the original protest, and includes a historic surprise twist.
Admission costs $25 per person, $20 for Newport Historical Society members. Funds raised from the party offset event costs and support the Society's initiatives for future programming with costumed interpreters. NHS members should be prepared to present their membership card at check-in.
