Stained Glass Fabrication Workshop with Daprato Rigali Studios

Description
This workshop will introduce students of all skill levels to the basics of stained glass fabrication.
The workshop wil begin with a tour of Daprato-Rigali Studios giving attendees a view into the fascinatiing world of litugical art fabrication and restoration. This will include tours of the stained glass studios, sculpture restoration department, altar fabrication, faux finishing, gilding, stenciling and the like. Daprato-Rigali artists will be available to explain their process and answer questions.
The studio tour will be followed by a safety talk and demonstration of best practices to ensure the safety of participants. Some of the materials used in stained glass require careful handling, especially sharp glass and products that contain lead and calcium carbonate. Safety equipment will be provide and protocols followed that will ensure a safe environment for participants.
Workshop Schedule:
11:00-12:00 Studio Tour & Safety Lecture
12:00-1:00 Lunch (included in the cost of the Workshop)
1:00-4:00 Fabrication of Stained Glass Panel
Fabrication Process:
-Glass cutting (student will select their own colors for each panel in their project)
-Laying the glass in place on a backlit table
-Cutting and placement of lead pieces in between stained glass pieces
-Soldering the lead
-Applying rub cement mixture into the gaps to strengthen the window
-Firing the panel
Students will create and take home a finished stained glass panel.
*This project will be a simplifed version of a stained glass panel, with lead and multiple pieces that will not include painting since this is a beginners introductory workshop. Center panel will be prepared by Daprato Rigali of glass and film transparency.
