Stage2 Spring Term 2018 Options

Stage2 returns this Spring with several fantastic options for young people from across the West Midlands - from getting involved in a World Premiere of a classic writers work to building and making life size puppets. There's something for everyone at Stage2 this Spring!

Who Are We?

Stage2 is Birmingham’s Busiest Youth Theatre, with a 28 year history and reputation for high quality shows, workshops and work experience. We run on Saturdays during Term Time at Millennium Point in Birmingham City Centre. Anyone aged 7-21 can join, with no audition required! Stage2 do at least 3 Productions a year, as well as workshops in not only General Drama, but Offstage Topics (including Technical Theatre training!).

Mornings 9.30am – 1pm

Production: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Stars
By Gervase Phinn

Adapted by Liz Light

Performed by a talented, enthusiastic cast to a packed, appreciative audience…in this production they were all stars. Well done yet again Stage2.Curtain Call.

Following the huge sell-out success of A Wayne in a Manger last January (see above), Stage2 return to the works of the Sunday Times Best-Selling Author for a much requested sequel. This time we see the children presenting not Nativity Scenes but a Talent Show for the hallowed School Inspector – played once more by ex-member George Bandy - as they perform poems (also courtesy of Gervase) with varying degrees of aplomb and ambition, style and success.

There are many similarities and echoes with AWIAM - the poems are again interspersed with classroom and whole school scenes, allowing us to delve deeper into the lives of these little darlings - including old favourites Dominic and Chardonnay - as well as the Vicar (Alex Butler), the Headteacher and another hapless Visiting Poet.

Suitable for anyone who is or has ever been a child.

18th – 21st April 2018 7.45pm (+ Sat mat at 2pm)
The Crescent Studio Theatre, Sheepcote St, Brindleyplace, Birmingham B16 8AE

Anyone (over 9) can be in the Chorus for this production, just sign up at the Intro; Jan 27th 2018.

Offstage: Puppet Building

This term in Offstage we are going to return to the practical (non-performance) origins of this option, focusing on the art of making and operating large scale puppets. We will focus on the creatures & characters from Homer’s The Odyssey (The Hydra, The Cyclops, The Cerberus etc.) with a view for them to be potentially used in the Summer Term’s Production – if not to be displayed in Reception or used at The Spring Sharings. This is a dedicated term creating extraordinary models & puppets with moving parts –so expect lots of building, crafting and making as we bring these fabulous beasts to life.

As this term will involve using craft items (scissors etc.) and adhesives this option is only suitable for members 14/16 +. If you are younger than 14 you must have spoken to your parents and Alex before the Term starts.

If you would like to get involved, you must be able to provide:

  • A Filter Face Mask
  • Gardening Gloves

Afternoons 1.30 – 5pm

General Drama: Skills

After a couple of terms of specific topics we return to a term touching on a wide variety of areas – a different one each week. This term we are focusing on specific, identifiable skills that will help you in school in your GCSEs and A Levels, with LAMDA Exams and in interviews and auditions. It will generate excellent additions for CVs and Personal Statements for any future course or career, and give you skills to discuss with confidence and pride.

Each week will feature a different skill including the more familiar Improvisation, Characterisation and Physicality, alongside Team Building, Ensemble Work and Interview Technique/Presentation skills. The group will be relaxed and informal but we will expect dynamism and focus to allow members to develop new skills or build on existing ones.

There will be a Sharing at the end of term to show the rest of the company, friends and family what we have learnt. Every week will be completely self-contained so if you can’t commit to many weeks then this is the option for you.

Workshop: Stage1

This is a friendly group, where members mix, learn and have lots of fun in a secure environment with other enthusiastic and willing members. Members participate in fun games, drama exercises and creative play every Saturday afternoon.

Everyone aged 7-10 is welcome, though 9 and 10 year olds can choose to be in other options instead or as well if they prefer. There will be a Sharing at the end of term to show the rest of the company, friends and family what has been learnt.

Stage2 Intro: Saturday 27th January 2018 9.30am till 2.30pm
